Hi everyone
Thought you might like to have a look at the photos from our NAIDOC/Mabo celebrations. Heidi and Jonas performed at Tjabukai and the Civic Theatre. Our family was also invited by Eddie Mabo’s neice, Aunty Harriet, to a traditional Kup Muri to celebrate Mabo Day. There was lots of dancing and traditional food. This would have to be one highlight of our time here! I was also given an island dress to wear for celebrations…hmmmmm!!! Not sure orange is my colour!
We just returned from the Townsville Cultural Festival. 100 students 20 staff and 5 support staff for the week. It was AMAZING. Very busy! Heidi and Jonas were more excited about opening the Jessica Mauboy concert with the Aboriginal Welcome Dance and meeting her for a Meet and Greet 1/2hr session than anything else. She was very nice and had lots of time for the children and what they were doing. Both Heidi and Jonas love dancing with the Aboriginal group and Jonas will soon start learning to play Didj.
The end of the year approaches fast. Off to Cape York and Thursday Island in September. We hope you are all well and happy.
Cheers
The Drijvers
